The Amador family, who also narrates the English-language version, creates a delightful and loving interplay among themselves in this Spanish edition. Rosi's Mami conveys a caring mother, and Brian's Mango, the parrot who brings Mia and Abuela together, offers a surprising, charming, and delightful flavor to this Pura Belpre´ Award–winning book. The Spanish is clear, with mild accents that fit with the setting. English words are used when necessary to convey the communication difficulties and learning experiences that Mia and Abuela encounter. Upbeat Latin music composed by Brian Amador and appropriate background sound effects round out and enrich the production.
